Thank you very much for your interest! The goal of the original tutorial was to let the reader produce as real music as possible with VSL products. Back then, it was about...
A) ...to make the midifiles sound as musical as possible by skillfully selecting articulations from the sample libraries.
B) ...then mix the audio files professionally. The music should sound like the great demos on the VSL website.
But more and more new VSL products made it impossible for me to keep my tutorial for all these products up to date... After about 6-7 years the "Tutorial VSL" had to be discontinued because it was outdated.
However, I found it a pity that the "main content" of the tutorial was no longer accessible: It is about producing natural sounding music with sample by clever articulation choice. I continue to provide this important content as a free tutorial.
The content of this tutorial Music with Samples is therefore reduced to how to get musical results by clever choice of articulations.
This tutorial can be used independently of the library product, despite VSL libraries.

Vielen Dank für Ihr Interesse! Das Ziel des ursprünglichen Tutorials war es, den Leser mit VSL-Produkten möglichst "echte Musik" produzieren zu lassen. Damals ging es darum...
A) ...um die Midifiles so musikalisch wie möglich klingen zu lassen, dies durch geschicktes Auswählen von Artikulationen der Sample-Libraries.
B) ...um das professionelle Mischen der Audiodateien. Die Musik sollte wie die tollen Demos auf der VSL-Website klingen.
Aber immer mehr neue VSL-Produkte machten es mir unmöglich, dabei mein Tutorial auf dem neuesten Stand zu halten... Nach etwa 6-7 Jahren musste das "Tutorial VSL" leider eingestellt werden. Es war veraltet.
Ich fand es jedoch schade, dass der "Hauptinhalt" des Tutorials nicht mehr zugänglich war: Es geht um das Produziern von natürlich klingender Musik mit Sample durch geschickte Artikulationswahl. Diesen wichtigen Inhalt stelle ich als kostenloses Tutorial weiterhin zur Verfügung.
Der Inhalt dieses Tutorials Music with Samples reduziert sich daher darauf, wie man musikalische Ergebnisse durch geschickte Wahl der Artikulationen erhält. Dieses Tutorial ist trotz VSL-Libraries unabhängig vom Library Produkt zu gebrauchen.

Apart from a short overview of what is needed to be able to work sensibly with samples, you will first learn which different samples there are and what properties they have. Then you will learn about different combinations of articulations. This should give you ideas on how you could design and achieve different musical phrases. The worst way to deal with samples would be to choose one articulation - and then play everything with it.
As a small example to give you a taste of what the tutorial offers: :

A real instrumentalist plays each new note with a different articulation, even if, for example, he only wants to play staccatos.
On the other hand, sample producers have the problem that all notes and articulations in sample libraries should sound as neutral as possible. Notes with integrated feelings would be great the first time we heard them - but as soon as we heard the second note "with the same feeling" as before, it would seem more and more terrible with each new repetition.
So it's up to you to bring life into the actually dead-sounding world of samples by varying the tempo, the velocity, the dynamics and of course the articulations as often as possible.
Varying the articulation is a first big step towards natural sounding music, despite samples!

Although the tutorial focuses on VSL samples, it is suitable for all owners of orchestra libraries, because all libraries today are pretty much the same.

Neben einem kleinen Überblick, was alles benötigt wird, um mit Samples vernünftig arbeiten zu können, lernen Sie zuerst, welche verschiedenen Samples es gibt und welche Eigenschaften sie haben. Danach lernen Sie verschiedene Kombinationen von Artikulationen kennen. Dies soll Ihnen Ideen geben, wie Sie verschiedene musikalische Phrasen gestalten und ereichen könnten. Der schlimmste Umgang mit Samples wäre ja, eine Artikulation zu wählen - und damit dann alles zu spielen.
Als kleines Beispiel, um einen Vorgeschmack zu erhalten, was das Tutorial bietet:

Ein echter Instrumentalist spielt jede neue Note mit einer anderen Artikulation, auch wenn er zum Beispiel nur Staccatos spielen will.
Auf der anderen Seite haben die Sample-Hersteller das Problem, dass alle Noten und Artikulationen bei Samples möglichst neutral klingen sollten. Noten mit integrierten Gefühlen wären beim ersten Hören großartig - aber sobald wir die zweite Note "mit demselben Gefühl" wie zuvor hören, würde sie mit jeder neuen Wiederholung immer schrecklicher erscheinen.
Es liegt also an Ihnen, Leben in die eigentlich tot klingende Welt der Samples zu bringen, indem wir das Tempo, die Anschlagstärke, die Dynamik und natürlich die Artikulationen so oft wie möglich variieren.
Das Variieren der Artikulation ist ein erster großer Schritt zu natürlich wirkender Musik, trotz Samples!

Obwohl im Tutorial vor allem die Samples von VSL im Vordergrund stehen, ist das Tutorial für alle Besitzer von Orchester Libraries geeignet, weil sich heute ja alle Libraries ziemlich gleichen.
