FAQs
This tutorial is sort of instructions for all VSL-Products (VI, VE, Vienna SUITE, and soon MIR) and it shows how
to use all the different samples (single notes, legato notes and special notes).
Another part is the mix of audio tracks. This can be usefull even if you only own the SE-Library.
This on the level "Beginner - Advanced" .
So if you have the SE-Library it is maybe a really small part of the tutorial you can use.
An ideal situation could be:
- One Full Library (Chamber-Strings?) and a DAW
- One Full Library and the Vienna SUITE
- One Full Library and VEpro and 3rd party effects/instruments
- The SE-Library together with the Vienna SUITE
- You want to buy a product you don't have until now (MIR, a full library...)
On the one hand the SE Library contains a lot of instruments but not a lot of different articulations.
So a lot of the tricks in connection with the samples are useless. On the other hand you will see what full libraries will be able for.
If you have no problem with my website with your current browser you also would be able to read the tutorial (I used the same software).
You will get instructions "how to use VSL-Samples and VSL-Software" with tutorial 2009.
Tutorial 2009 is a good choice for your start with products of VSL. So you will get good results within a short time with this tutorial.
Tutorial 2007 is removed from every Library and DAW. It treats the matters in more theoretically way and there are more side information about strings, woudwinds, effects etc. in connection with "producing music with samples".
The Tutorial contains
- all SUITE Presets of the D-minor Fugue (Mixer) such as EQs, PowerPans, Depths etc.
- Vienna Ensemble Chamber-Strings Preset (arranged as an orchestra)
- Vienna Ensemble Solo Strings Preset (arranged as a quintett)
- all midifiles of the examples
- ...
Precondition: All these presets need the corresponding effects or libraries...
All the instructions the products of VSL are removed from any DAW! > So Tutorial 2009 is for WIN- an MAC- users.
Yes, it will!
Release: March/April 2010 (both languages)
It will come with free presets - but you need to have the same libraries for using them.
One of the two pieces is already finished: Eine kleine Nachtmusik (Chamber Strings + Solo Strings Full)
http://www.beat-kaufmann.com/demos/index.html
E-Music/BK_Mozart_Eine_kleine_Nachtmusik_MIR
The other piece is being produced just now: "Tango MIR" (Chamber Strings, Woodwinds, Brass, Percussion, 3rd party instruments..)
I believe that this Tango MIR can be played with the SE Library as well even if I will use articulations from the Full libraries.
No, it is a html-document. You save it in a folder of your PC or you burn it on a CD. If you click on the start file (index.html) your browser will show the tutorial. So tutorial appears as a website so to say. The design is the same as you have here with this website.

The tutorial only uses VSL-Products:
SuiteEffects for mixing
VI, VE and Samples of VSL for playing sounds
This question isn't easy to answer.
Making music with samples means:
* how to use samples?
* how to produce instrument tracks?
* how to mix these tracks?
* how to treat different instruments with effects?
* how to bring them in a whole mix?
Tutorial 2009 will give you answers to all these points as well.
If you know how to select and how to use the VI and if you know more about all the different sample categories you will be able to transfere the knowledge into the world of horizon...
The tutorial helps to study the Example of the Dm-Suite (and other pieces).
You can learn from these examples which will offer all their secrets.
(Midifile, Presets for the SuiteEffects, picture of the mixer, etc.)
Yes, the tutorial is going to create up to 4 depths for the Bach's Dm-Fugue. The Presets for the Convolution Reverbs are available for download with the tutorial (Example1, Sidebar)
Further, the tutorial also shows how to integrate a band in an orchestra which means "another depth". (Example3, Sidebar)
Creating depths is a main theme within the chapters around mixing all the instruments.
